Hendrickcars.com Sponsors #5 Car This Weekend

March 1, 2010

Hendrickcars.com is the primary partner for the  Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevrolet and  Mark Martin this Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Atlanta Motor Speedway after a two-week sponsorship with JR Motorsports on the #88 Chevrolet (finished 7th 2/20 in Fontana  and crashed early on 2/27 at Las Vegas).  Mark Martin has had two 4th place finishes in the last two races and finished second in the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

Hendrickcars.com is the primary sponsor of #88 car (Bires)

February 22, 2010

What’s Happening?
Hendrickcars.com is the primary partner for JR Motorsports #88 car for this weekend and next weekend’s Nationwide Series races. Both races are televised on ESPN 2. This Saturday’s race airs at 3:30 PM CST.

Where are the races?

This Saturday’s race is in in Las Vegas at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Who is the driver?
Kelly Bires is the full-time driver for the #88 Chevrolet. Bires signed with JR Motorsports prior to the end of the 2009 season, and competed in his first race under the JRM banner in the Nationwide series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the No. 5 Chevrolet.

Like many young drivers, Bires was bitten by the racing bug early.  By the age of 12 he had already nailed down two Regional Karting Titles.  By 14 he had added consecutive national championships. He entered the Allison Legacy Car Series at 15 and in two years, he won the two most prestigious awards, Rookie of the Year (2000) and Series Champion (2001).  After making the move to the late model ranks in 2002, Bires ran locally in Wisconsin for two years before moving to Charlotte to pursue a career in NASCAR.   It was to the detriment of his competitors when he showed up to the ASA Late Model Series in 2006, as he notched seven wins, four poles, 15 top-five finishes and no finishes out of the top-10 in 17 starts. He was the runaway winner of the series championship and Rookie of the Year honors.

Representatives from JTG Racing took notice of his successful year and signed Bires to drive one of its two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entries in 2007. As an added benefit for Bires, he received tutelage from veteran Mark Martin, who teamed with him in the series early in the season.  A mid-season opportunity to race in the Nationwide Series presented itself, and Bires wasted no time to take it.  He debuted in the No. 47 Clorox car for JTG Daugherty Racing at the Meijer 300 race at Kentucky Speedway, where he impressed competitors by finishing seventh after starting 26th. Bires ended his promising rookie season with two top-10 finishes.

In 2008, Bires continued to run for JTG, earning one top-five and six top-10 finishes.  In 2009, Bires was tapped for a part-time schedule, driving select races for Kevin Harvick, Inc., as well as Braun Racing, and CJM Racing.  In four competitive starts, Bires earned two top-five and three top-10 finishes.  Additionally, Bires made one ARCA start at Talladega in 2009 where he led 35 laps and finished ninth.

In his spare time, Bires enjoys being outdoors snowmobiling and hunting, especially in his native Wisconsin.

Look Out and Share the Road!

February 18, 2010

A handful of county roads will be partially closed to traffic Sunday, March 14, 2010, as hundreds of cyclists compete in one of several spring cycling events sponsored by Texas High School Cycling League.

Lake Highlands defensive coordinator Jeff Smith has been named McKinney’s new head football coach and athletic coordinator, replacing the retiring Bobby Reyes. The McKinney ISD board of trustees approved the hiring of Smith, who has coached at Lake Highlands since 2007.

“Jeff is extremely enthusiastic and demonstrates a unique ability to relate to students,” McKinney ISD superintendent J.D. Kennedy said. “His proven success as both an offensive and defensive coordinator will bode well for moving the McKinney High School football program forward.”

Under Smith’s direction, Lake Highlands’ defense was one of the best in the area last season, helping the team to a 9-3 finish. Before coming to Lake Highlands, Smith was an offensive coordinator at Lorena.

Smith replaces Reyes, who was 11-21 in three seasons at McKinney. McKinney finished 4-7 the last two seasons and lost to Highland Park in the first round of the 4A playoffs.

Honda’s Civic GX earns #1 Ranking on ACEEE’s “2010 Greenest Vehicles” list – CleanMPG Forums

Honda’s Civic GX earns #1 Ranking on ACEEE’s “2010 Greenest Vehicles” list

GX takes the crown for an amazing 7th year in a row!

Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – Jan. 20, 2010

2010 Honda Civic GX – $25,340 to start, inexpensive to fuel and the cleanest emissions of any vehicle available…

Four Honda vehicles earned recognition from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) as among the “greenest vehicles of 2010” with the Civic GX natural gas car earning the title of American’s greenest vehicle for the seventh consecutive year, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. In the annual ACEEE’s “Green Book® Online” ranking of environmentally responsible vehicles, the near-zero emissions natural gas-powered Civic GX ranked first with the Civic Hybrid, Insight and Fit joining the list on the ACEEE’s 12 most environmentally responsible vehicles available to the public.

This is the tenth year in a row that a Honda vehicle received the number one ranking and the ninth consecutive year that Honda vehicles held at least three positions in the top 12. This year’s list also marks the first appearance of the next-generation Insight in its first year on the market.

“Honda’s rankings in the ACEEE study are emblematic of our commitment to lowering emissions and increasing fuel efficiency in all of our models,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda. “Honda continues to set the standard for socially and environmentally responsible vehicles with products like the Insight and Civic GX.”

The ACEEE’s ranking system uses a singular measure that incorporates fuel economy, health-related pollution impacts, and global warming emissions. All vehicles are analyzed and given a “Green Score” which is used to rank a vehicle’s total environmental performance, including a list of the 12 “greenest” and 12 “meanest” vehicles. The Civic GX, first introduced in 1998 and currently built at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana*, is the cleanest internal combustion vehicle certified by the U.S. EPA.

Honda has a long history of environmental innovation, including the introduction of America’s first hybrid, the Honda Insight (1999), delivery of the first fuel cell vehicle in the U.S., the FCX (2002) and the first gasoline-powered vehicles in the hands of consumers to meet stricter emissions standards, including:

  • The first gasoline Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV), the 1996 Honda Civic.
  • The first gasoline Ultra-Low Emissions vehicle (ULEV), the 1998 Honda Accord.
  • The first gasoline Super Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV), the 2000 Honda Accord.
  • The first Advanced Technology Partial-Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV), the 2001 Civic GX natural gas vehicle.

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing energy efficiency as a means of promoting both economic prosperity and environmental protection.

Although this was the last gen, our take of the Civic GX was pretty spectacular
